New Year, Ancient Rites explored how communities across the Malay Archipelago have marked the new year through ceremony, ritual, and communal feasting for thousands of years.

The exhibition opened on 5 January 2026 and drew together artefacts, textiles, and oral accounts from Malay, Javanese, Balinese, and Bugis traditions.
